Message for Uganda!

Saturday 7/11/15 eight children ages 4 to 11 showed up dressed for school, ready and eager. But wait it’s a Saturday AND it’s summer.

They were present in a make shift school house to send a very special video message to their peers, on the other side of the world, whom they have never met, all the way in Uganda.

The message is simple yet potentially life saving. Wash your hands with soap. They quickly embraced their role as Jr Health Ambassadors and in a gleeful way, as only children can do, they shared this life impacting message thru a fun rhyming song, demonstrations, playground hand games and lastly by taking a hand washing pledge.

It was a morning filled with joy and laughter. “Don’t forget the soap!” as cheerfully stated by our four year old ambassador.

We believe your message will be heard loud and clear, bringing plenty of smiles to your peers in Uganda. Great job! Keep spreading joy!

Empowerment Luncheon success!

The May 23, 2015 empowerment luncheon had close to 100 people at our Lancaster domestic violence shelter.

The weather cooperated and gave us sunshine, with gentle winds, for a beautiful garden party setting.

Our guest were lavished with good fun (sponsored by California Pizza Kitchen), gifts (Michael Kors purse/wallet and travel voucher from The Comfort Cruiser), plus other special treats including gift bags from a Mary Kay distributor.

Women who have survived domestic violence and are now walking in destiny, shared their powerful stories and the ladies were filled with hope.

The children had a party of their own, complete with bouncer (sponsor Jump Jump Around!), story time with the engaging Author Chantay E. Brown and one of a kind drawings by caricature artist, Paul Williams.

In addition our creative volunteers made a garden education and interactive play stations. The kids had a ball!

Thanks to all our generous sponsors, collaborators Living Praise Christian Center and Healing Hands Heal Hearts and dedicated volunteers.

We did this together!

New Programs (Summer 2015)

We have some exciting programs in development that will help propel the many youth we serve to new heights.

Our goal is to equip them with new life skills, encourage them to dream BIG, spread their wings and SOAR!

Our first new program is Financial Literacy for Youth. It is in development, so we can’t reveal too much just yet, but stay tuned.

The second is called Homeless Encounter: A Day in My Shoes. This will provide a hands-on educational experience to adults, as well as youth, about homelessness. This will be a great outreach for families to participate in together.

In addition, participants will be able to give back to those experiencing homelessness during this encounter.

Targeted launch date is Summer 2015.

Please use the Contact Me page if you would like more information about either or both new programs.

We hope to hear from you soon!

Mission: Make a Mom smile!

Mission Make a Mom Smile is underway for Mother’s Day.

Here at Project Joy we want to give a great big THANK YOU, WE APPRECIATE YOU to ALL the mother’s!

Whether you have natural children, adopted children, foster children or borrowed children (as an aunt, cousin, teacher, coach), we believe all women are mother’s in their own way.

We visited Big Sunday on 5/7/15 and their wonderful volunteers made over 90 hand made cards (beautifully done) and 40 gift boxes (filled with nail polish, lip gloss, scarves) for the lovely ladies in our community.

We had the joy of inviting and meeting two case workers from Valley Oasis at the project on 5/7/15 and they shared more about the important work they do to help women rebuild their lives from domestic violence.

Afterwards, Project Joy headed out and made deliveries of the gifts to the Mary Magdalene Project, Van Nuys who assist women who are victimized by sexual exploitation. We also delivered to the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission, for women in their follow up care program.

We will complete deliveries to Grace Resources, Lancaster very, very soon 🙂

It was a beautiful day of meeting new friends, munching, chatting and doing good for others. Big Sunday is a wonderful support to us and our communities.

Happy Mother’s Day all!

Grandparent’s Day was…full of joy!

Hard to express the “magic”, the intangible, pure awesome feeling of love, joy and unity that took place Saturday 5/2/15.

Project Joy co-hosted with Living for Purpose Outreach “Grandparent’s Day” at AV Care Center. This was Project 130, one of many taking place thru-out the nation for the 17th Annual Big Sunday weekend.

The day started with a folkloric dance by the Pulido family (of Lancaster Girl Scout Troop 262). Priceless.

Then a brother, sister duo by Timothy and Olivia of Living Praise Christian Center. Heart warming.

Next we had a mime dance by the Parra family (mom Leslie, son Isaiah and young daughter Heaven, while Dad Daniel played sound tech :). Awe Inspiring.

The day continued with caricature drawings by Paul Williams (and his monkey), which the seniors loved!

We had a friendly game of Bingo with prizes, led by the wonderful young ladies of Girl Scout Troop 262. Super Fun!

Pam Boyd and Gwen Shim shared a duet with our “grandparents”. Enduring.

We snacked, chatted, took pictures, did sing a longs and really didn’t want the day to end.

The youth made beautiful cards and passed out colorful flowers to all our grandparents. Sweet.

To close out, musical artist Daniel Anthony led us in a beautiful song. Unifying.

As we were packing up and leaving, one of our “grandparent’s” asked “when will you guys be back?”. Another asked for a Big Sunday volunteer shirt “to remember the day by”.

I will post pictures soon and yes grandparent’s we will be back!!

Note: if you are interested in joining us next visit (June and/or July) send an email or fill out the Contact Me form. Thanks!

All Smiles at VCRM Easter event!

Easter VCRM excited kids

The event on Saturday 4/4/15 at the Ventura County Rescue Mission brought lots of smiles! I think we can say “mission accomplished”:)

The Mission planned amazing easter baskets filled with goodies and new bicycles to those super sleuth egg hunters who spotted a “golden” egg!

Project Joy was pleased to bring Agape Mime and Author Chantay Brown. The children enjoyed it all so much. Their joy was contagious.

Please visit our Gallery for photos from this amazing day.

Until next time, keep spreading joy!

Empowerment Luncheon for Mother’s Day

We are busy planning and working on details for a day of encouragement and empowerment for 22 women and 35 children at our local domestic violence shelter.

This event is Saturday 5/23/15 and we could use your help.

Please visit the GET INVOLVED, WISH LIST page on this site to see the shelter’s current needs and help however you can.

They provide a full range of supportive services (shelter, food, counseling, job training, life skills, legal assistance, childcare and more) to the precious families seeking refuge and a new start.

We’re so excited to partner with them and provide event planning services and donations to assist this worthwhile cause.

All things are possible when we show love for one another.
