Rockin Jump Fundraiser

Project Joy Board Member at Rockin Jump

Thank you Rockin Jump Palmdale for hosting our fundraiser for college scholarships.

We appreciate all the support and jumpers who came out on 6/9/17. We had so much fun raising money to support our Antelope Valley at-risk youth with their dreams of going to college.

Summer youth field trip success

Student at California Science Center

Together with 15 at-risk and homeless youth from our community we had a college tour at USC. The children enjoyed our hunt to find “Tommy Trojan” and learn about the character of a trojan.

We then spent the day at the California Science Center. They were able to see, hear, touch, smell and feel so many educational tools. Great way to stimulate the mind during the summer and keep children excited to learn and explore.

Congratulations Scholars!

We received a record number of applications for the Project Joy College Scholarship program this year. We selected six outstanding high school graduates to receive a $250 award to assist with their higher education.

Three scholars from Littlerock High School and three recipients from Quartz Hill High School were honored at their school’s Senior Award Night in May.

Each recipient has a 4.0 or above GPA, outstanding leadership in school and in the community, in addition to being resilient and proving they can “bounce back” from adversity in life.

Our scholarship committee had a tough task and we all were encouraged by the strength and character these young leaders have.

Cheers to you and we know you will excel in college and all you set your mind to do!

Volunteer Opportunities

We are hosting an Easter Egg Hunt at our local shelter. We have several surprises in store.

In May we will host a Job Fair/Career Expo. This event will greatly assist those who have participated in our career development program, where we covered resume writing, interviewing skills, dress for success and other relevant topics.

Also in May we are starting a garden as a wish list request from one of our adopted schools. This will surely be a delight.

We are being supported by the Brooks and Brooks Foundation 2nd Annual Golf Tournament on 5/23/16. Please visit their website for details on participating as a volunteer or sponsor.

July will kick off our youth camps. We will host a private basketball day camp for a group of very deserving youth.

Also in July we will host our performing arts summer program for at-risk youth.

Please use the contact page or email us at projectjoyusa@gmail.com to volunteer, sponsor, donate items or offer support. We greatly appreciate you!

Youth Empowerment Group

We did vision boarding this month with our Youth Empowerment Group. There was so much talking, laughing, snacking and fun for all. It was pretty much everyone’s first time making a vision board and it was hard for all of us to stop. Hats off to the girls for fully embracing a new experience!

Having fun with vision boards!

Youth Empowerment Group kickoff

Mentor Kelly Timmons of KD Sweets

Mentor Kelly Timmons of KD Sweets

Our after school “Power Hour” for girls age 9-17 has launched at our local shelter this month. We kicked it off in the kitchen with business owner Kelly Timmons of KD Sweets. She taught the group how to make chocolate covered everything (strawberries, pretzels, Oreo cookies) and package these yummy treats professionally. During the session she shared how her business started small and grew rapidly and is thriving today. She empowered the group to find their passion (that thing you go to sleep and wake up thinking about. You enjoy it so much you’ll even do it for free). We left feeling empowered indeed! Next month is vision boarding so stay tuned.

Valentine Party at Homes For Life

FB_IMG_1455787370162What an amazing good time we had at Homes For Life in Van Nuys, CA. We received a request from one of the residents who really wanted to do something special for her neighbors. We were delighted to pitch in and help her throw a Valentine’s block party! She decorated the community room, we brought the music, food, drinks and games (Valentine bingo). Do you know what S.W.A.K. means? I didn’t either but one of our new friends figured it out. Our hearts were all filled by the love and laughter. Looking forward to visiting again (next stop “rooftop”)! Now that’s “sealed with a kiss”. Keep spreading joy!

Valentine 2016 Handbags of Love

Valentine’s Day is extra special to us at Project Joy. Many of the families we serve are often overlooked and not celebrated. On this “day of love” we do our best to change that. We were founded in 2014 by a nine year old who simply wanted to share her teddy bear with a young girl who appeared in need. This turned into our first donation drive! Over 300 stuffed animals were collected at her school and delivered with a party at several homeless shelters on Valentine’s Day 2014. This year our team collected over 200 ladies handbags and filled them with goodies during our Holiday Purse drive. We are extremely grateful that we could share 75 or so purses with some lovely guest at the Ventura County Rescue Mission this year. They were elated. May they forever be celebrated and feel abundant love. Keep spreading joy!
